MPMA 6608 - Marine Coastal Resource Management


Prerequisite: MPMA 6606 . This course provides an examination of human uses and transformations of natural marine coastal resources, and current policy and management strategies to safeguard the sustainability of these resources and the well-being of natural resource dependent communities. Topics explored include a historical approach to natural resource management and conservation paradigms, application of social-ecological theory to address policy and management problems, traditional and community based management, co-management, ecosystem-based and adaptive management theory, and coastal zone management in the U.S. Readings and case studies are used to exemplify application of different management theories at various governance levels. 3 credits.
