MARA 2202 - Marine Environments, Society, and Sustainability This course explores in detail the relationships between society and the marine environment through historic and anthropologic accounts of the human-marine environment connection. From Polynesian explorers to European settlers, from Mare Liberum to the UN Convention on the Law of the Seas, students will become familiar with cultural, social, and historic factors shaping the human-ocean link as well as aspects that contribute to significant transformations in this relationship and affect notions of marine resource sustainability. 3 credits.
