MPMA 6610 - Human Ecology of Coastal Systems


Prerequisite: MPMA 6600 .  This is a study abroad course that gives students the opportunity to learn in situ about human ecology of coastal systems. Students will explore complex marine policy issues, conservation and management strategies, and anthropogenic impacts in different coastal locations, which will vary by offering. Students study preparatory materials before going to the area of study to collect and analyze social science data and participate in discourse with experts including government officials, scientists, policy experts, managers, and members of academia as well as stakeholders living, working, and recreating in the coastal communities. Students develop and complete a research project that they submit and present at the end of the term. 4 credits.
