SLPA 6624 - Autism Spectrum Disorders and Developmental Disabilities This course provides a review of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) from the perspectives of various disciplines along with other Developmental Disabilities (e.g., ADHD, intellectual disabilities, hearing loss, vision impairment, Fragile X syndrome, Cerebral Palsy). Theories of causation, developmental aspects, descriptive and diagnostic characteristics, and legal and social issues are discussed related to communication. This course will provide the most current research findings and best practices to develop a clear understanding of individuals diagnosed with ASD and other developmental disabilities and how to apply current research to treatment. Issues related to the school-age population will be discussed along with issues impacting young adults transitioning out of the school setting. 3 credits.
