CSCI 6405 - Introduction to Cloud Computing and Big Data Prerequisites: CSCI 6622 , and either CSCI 6639 or CSCI 6645 . This course is an introduction to data sciences. It comprises two main sections: cloud computing and Big Data analytics. In the first section, an introduction to Big Data will be covered from a data base perspective to handle Big Data analytics. The concept of MapReduce will be discussed, and how we can use software platforms such as Hadoop and its ecosystem to manage data. Next, there will be a discussion of applications of Big Data using software such as Hadoop as well as statistical analysis. In the second section, the cloud architecture will be discussed, including data centers, virtualization, clusters, and further discussion on cloud environments such as: Microsoft System Center and Ubuntu OpenStack setup and configuration including SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS. 3 credits.
