RUSS 6601 - Elementary Russian I This course employs a thoroughly communicative approach that develops the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The fundamentals of basic Russian grammar and vocabulary will be presented through dialogues based on themes of everyday life in Russia. Cultural materials in various media and videos of conversations between native speakers will be modeled weekly, playing a central role in reinforcing linguistic skills. A web-based language laboratory facilitates listening and the recording of spoken exercises and dialogs. In addition, students will watch a cultural video series in Russian over the course of the semester and prepare short weekly journal assignments that engage new vocabulary and cultural content. A final oral project designed by the student will be due at the end of the semester. 3 credits.
