AIML 4497 - AI Capstone Project I


Prerequisites: AIML 3310 , AIML 3320 , and senior standing.  This is the first course of a two-semester capstone sequence where students apply their artificial intelligence knowledge to real-world projects. Students are assigned to project teams and work with sponsors from industry, government, or academia on substantial AI challenges. The course emphasizes project scoping, requirements analysis, initial research and development, and foundational team collaboration. Students participate in weekly standups while learning essential concepts including project management methodologies, technical communication, intellectual property considerations, privacy requirements, and regulatory compliance in AI development. Each team develops a comprehensive project proposal including problem definition, literature review, proposed approach, timeline, and success criteria for approval by faculty advisors and project sponsors. 3 credits.
