CIVL 6641 - Computer-aided Structural Design Prerequisites: at least one design course from CIVL 6628 or CIVL 6630 or CIVL 6631 or CIVL 6635 or CIVL 6637 or CIVL 6652 , at least one inspection course from CIVL 6636 or CIVL 6638 or CIVL 6639 or CIVL 6669 , and a minimum of 9 completed credits. Current techniques for applying industry-standard structural engineering computer software. Case studies will be used to understand the capabilities and limitations of computer models. Utilization of selected models for the planning, analysis, and design of civil engineering projects. No previous experience with finite element analysis is required; however, a strong background in engineering fundamentals (i.e. statics, mechanics of material, a computer language) is essential in order to take full advantage of this course. 3 credits.
