BIOL 4501 - Protein Biochemistry and Enzymology Prerequisites: BIOL 4461 , CHEM 2202 , CHEM 2204 . This course provides an in-depth examination of the relationship between protein structure and function. The course begins with a detailed exploration of protein structure and synthesis. The structure/function relationship is demonstrated by looking at enzymes, including their structure, mechanism of action, and regulation. Methods and resources for studying proteins and enzymes are discussed throughout. The course is designed to acquaint the students with key elements of critical thinking and problem solving methods and techniques by using primary literature, group discussions, and the protein data bank and other resources for exploring protein structure. 3 credits
