The Education Department offers a Master of Science (M.S.) in Education with Initial Teacher Certification. The Education Department prepares future elementary and secondary school teachers. Secondary certification areas include Business, English/Language arts, Mathematics, Music (K-12), Science, Social studies, and World languages (French and Spanish) (K-12).
Students attend classes in the evening, while attending a fulltime, full year field component (internship) in a local school. In order to gain Connecticut licensure, students must also successfully complete thirteen weeks of student teaching.
Successful completion of all program, testing, and certification requirements will result in UNH's recommendation to the State Department of Education for Connecticut certification.
Entrance Requirements
Students are required to have and maintain an undergraduate cumulative 3.0 G.P.A.
Successful completion of Praxis I, or a total of 1100 on the SATs for a waiver. Elementary and Secondary students must pass Praxis II content exams before beginning student teaching.
Completion of formal application for graduate school and satisfaction of all graduate school requirements.
