Completion of a total of 33 graduate credits is required for the master of science degree in human nutrition.

Human Nutrition Program Options


Students enrolled in the Human Nutrition graduate program may wish to complete undergraduate courses to fulfill the foundation knowledge and skills required in a Didactic Program in Nutrition and Dietetics (DP) accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics -ACEND (formerly the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association), 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60606-6995, 800.877.1600, www.eatright.org. The undergraduate Nutrition and Dietetics program encourages students to apply concurrently to the Graduate Program in Human Nutrition AND the Undergraduate Nutrition and Dietetics Program (second application fee will be waived) so that a transcript evaluation can be completed by the undergraduate Program Director, to determine which undergraduate courses are required  to receive a "Verification Statement" for entry into a post-graduate Dietetic Internship Program en route to becoming a registered dietitian. A minimum of 10-12 undergraduate courses are usually required to meet verification requirements and may be taken concurrently with the weekend graduate program. Students may then apply to an accredited dietetic internship program (supervised practice) in their final year of study. Once supervised practice hours are completed (minimum of 1200 hours), the candidate will sit for the national registration exam admininstered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as the final requirement for becoming a registered dietitian (RD).
