The 12-credit advanced training program is designed for students who have achieved a master's degree applicable to counseling or related field and need to supplement their coursework in the management and care of individuals in forensic settings. It is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of professionals currently working or who will be working in forensic mental health settings.
Program Outcomes
Upon completion of this certificate, students will be able to:
- Utilize psychological concepts and principles to explain human behavior within the criminal justice system.
- Formulate forensic treatment plans.
- Evaluate forensic treatment programs from various perspectives
- Apply legal principles in landmark mental health cases to professional practice
- Describe recommended practices for forensic interviewing, assessment of risk of suicide, risk of future violence, and feigning/malingering
