The Doctorate of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program prepares students to become healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians, teachers, and other rehabilitation professionals to meet the client's needs. Students will gain knowledge and skills in the biological, psychological, and social areas. These skills are necessary to diagnose and treat a variety of cognitive, physical, and environmental needs related to daily functioning in everyday living skills. The OTD program prepares students to work as entry-level practitioners in a variety of settings.
The goal of the Occupational Therapy program is to prepare knowledgeable and ethical entry-level competent Occupational Therapy professionals at the doctoral level in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains connected by major content areas threads across the curriculum and scholarly professional work. The program will incorporate students' didactic work enhanced by fieldwork practical work that culminates with the doctoral capstone and experiential experience prior to graduation.
Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the Occupational Therapy Doctorate program, graduates are expected to:
1. Describe the use of evidence-based practice for occupational therapy.
2. Select occupational based assessments, interventions and health promotion.
3. Prove competency in clinical examination and diagnosis of occupational impairments.
4. Select therapeutic occupation-based interventions for injury and illness across the lifespan.
5. Evaluate psychosocial issues across the life span.
6. Select healthcare administrative skills and topics in clinical competency.
7. Prioritize a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.
