HIST 1120 - History of African Americans This course examines the black experience in American history. From the arrival of the first African slaves in 1619 up to the contemporary era, this course will focus on the contributions black Americans have made to American society and the many challenges they have faced in the ongoing quest for equal rights and liberty. Topics covered will include the Atlantic slave trade, slave culture and resistance, the Reconstruction era, the Great Migration, the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements, the Obama presidency, and the myth of "post-racial" America. 3 credits.
