CMPE 4497 - Computer Engineering Capstone Design I


Prerequisite: CMPE 3397 . The first course of a two-semester capstone design sequence representing the culmination of the undergraduate engineering experience. Students are expected to apply engineering principles acquired from academic and experiential learning to the design of a system, component, operation, or process. Students are required to apply appropriate engineering design methodologies and analysis to their project, depending upon their discipline. Examples of these design activities include developing clearly defined problem statements or a statement of work, performing stakeholder needs assessments, applying engineering design standards, and developing realistic requirements and constraints. These requirements and constraints may include product lifecycle issues such as aesthetic, economic, risk, safety, reliability, maintainability, social, and environmental considerations. Students demonstrate the validity of their design through activities such as simulation, testing, verification, and/or validation. Professional skills such as teamwork, communication, ethics, and project management are emphasized. Cross-listed with ELEC 4497 . 3 credits.
