HIST 3315 - Black Activism from Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter


This course examines the history of African-American activism from the 1940's to the contemporary era. We will examine the protest strategies employed by various organizations and individuals throughout the black struggle for freedom and equality in modern America. Students in this course will analyze topics such as perceptions of "mainstream" and "radical" activism, societal resistance to black empowerment, debates over the definition of activism, and also the role that young people have played in shaping the contours of black protest.  3 credits.
