MATH 3305 - Introduction to Number Theory


Prerequisites: MATH 1117  and either MATH 2221  or MATH 1166  or CSCI 1166 .  This course serves as an introduction to the fundamentals of number theory. The topics covered are as follows: axioms for the natural numbers, divisibility, greatest common divisors, Euclidean algorithm, Diophantine equations, prime numbers, fundamental theorem of arithmetic, congruences and Fermat's little theorem, Euler's Phi function, Chinese remainder theorem, Pythagorean triples, mathematical induction and recursive algorithms. 3 credits.
