MIND 3367 - The Music Producer

Prerequisite: a grade of C or higher in MIND 2261. Performers and ensembles are acknowledged and appreciated for contributing to the creativity and brilliance of a record. Sometimes less acknowledged are producers that collaborate with musical artists and are responsible for various musical, creative, and strategic decisions that result in hits and genre-defining albums. This course is an in-depth examination of the history, role, and function of the music producer. Through the works of a diversity of producers, students will assess production techniques and processes as they impact sonics, structure, orchestration, arrangement, performance, sequencing, lyrics, and other musical decisions. 3 credits.
