COMM 3311 - Telling Digital Stories

Prerequisites or co-requisites: COMM 1130, DGAD 2001, ENGL 1112, or ENGL 1113, or ENGL 1114. Students will collect, craft, and publish digital stories in which participants from the university community celebrate the challenges of maintaining their diverse identities while becoming a part of a larger community. Are we all fundamentally the same with differences that are trivial, or fundamentally different with a great deal in common? The course requires students to recruit participants, plan and conduct interviews that elicit significant storytelling, apply a variety of pre- and post-production techniques to edit raw footage, and reflect upon the ethical and logistical challenges inherent in digital media production and public communication. 3 credits.
