CHEM 4413 - Principles of Chemistry Education I


Prerequisites: CHEM 1116 CHEM 1118 , junior standing. This course explores the theoretical and practical applications of chemistry education at the secondary and post-secondary levels.  The foundational aspects of curriculum, instruction, and assessment are presented throughout the course. Students design curriculum units using UBD, explore different pedagogies such as Process-Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL), Team-Based Learning (TBL), and Problem-Based Learning (PBL), and explore the fundamental differences between formative and summative assessments.  While the focus is on chemistry education, many course topics will also apply to other scientific disciplines, including biology and physics. 3 credits.
