SLPA 6620 - School-Age Language Disorders Prerequisite: SLPA 6600 . This course builds upon SLPA 6600 Language Development and Disorders in Children. This course is designed to provide graduate students with knowledge regarding language and learning disorders experienced by school-age children. This course includes in depth review of methods to determine eligibility for children and adolescents who have communication impairments in the school setting. Students will understand how disorders impact language and literacy skill acquisition, and the assessment and intervention issues for school-age children and adolescents with language learning disabilities (LLD). Students will understand laws and regulations relating to the implementation of speech-language services in schools. This will include use of of scientific research-based interventions (SRBI), development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and preparing for and leading the planning and placement team meeting. Students will also learn to integrate the common core standards. 3 credits.
