SLPA 6700 - Neurogenic Speech Disorders Prerequisite: SLPA 6622 . This course will develop an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of speech production as it relates to motor speech disorders and their treatment. The differential diagnosis will be stressed in the discussion of the etiology and basic characteristics of motor speech disorders across the age continuum. Clinical cases will be completed through simulation, to expound on students' knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of motor speech disorders. The overall aim is to equip students with knowledge of theoretical constructs, assessment, and treatment of acquired motor speech disorders. Successful completion of this course will prepare students for clinical practicums with acquired neurogenic speech disorders in a variety of medical, residential, and outpatient settings. 3 credits.
