SLPA 6803 - Cognitive-Communication Disorders Prerequisite: SLPA 6622 . This course provides a study of acquired and progressive cognitive-communication disorders resulting from neurological disorders and diseases such as traumatic brain injury, dementia, and mild cognitive impairment. This course focuses on the nature of these conditions, assessment to create a differential diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. Students will be able to embed the understanding cognitive skills such as attention, memory and executive functioning to discuss the importance of providing family/patient centered care. Students will develop skills to differentially diagnose patients based on imaging, standardized assessment and health/family history review. 3 credits.
