ARBC 2222 - Arabic-Speaking and Muslim Cultures, Literature, and Media No prerequisites - open to all proficiency levels. Delivered in English, and rooted in strong critical focus this course takes an interdisciplinary approach, joining the fields of Arabo-Muslim cultures, art and literature to the major themes in history, politics, anthropology, religion, economics, and to the trajectory of war and peace in the region, which are not only relevant but essential in understanding contemporary Arabo-Muslim societies and their cultural and behavior patterns. Students will analyze how dichotomies such as "East" vs "West", "Individualist" vs "Group", and "Tradition" vs "Modernity" etc. manifest through representative works of literature as well as popular and highbrow cultural media. The course will also provide a unique opportunity to produce in-depth humanistic and comprehensive analyses via discussions and written essays. 3 credits.
