ITAL 4411 - Crime and Punishment in Italian Culture This course introduces students to how crime, guilt and punishments have been dealt with in the Italian society in recent times. It is a thematic path through which the main contemporary criminal events are characterized by a punishment (or not!). The course consists of lectures, field trips, assignments, reading, research, and movie screenings, the combination of which will enable students to have an overview of the Italian approach to crime and punishment. Lessons are interactive: lectures are designed to supplement readings, whereas class meetings emphasize critique of assignments, and time is dedicated to discussing research projects (study cases). The course is intended to be taught at the Prato campus. Students will take advantage of the location which has played a crucial role at specific times in history and is still the setting for important changes in modern society. 3 credits.
