INVS 4306 - Threat Intelligence and Financial Crimes Investigations

Prerequisites: INVS 4302 , INVS 4303 , senior status. In this course, we will focus on how financial institutions can use cyber threat intelligence to collect information on these threats and the actors behind them to mitigate attacks against their organization. We will focus on financial and technical intelligence to identify indicators of compromise (IOCs) that can assist financial institutions with implementing security controls to mitigate risk. Each week, students will analyze a particular case study of a cyber event that targeted financial institutions to understand the attack vector used by the threat actor(s) and determine what measures financial institutions should take to mitigate this type of threat from occurring in the future. By the end of the course, students will be able to create a risk assessment which outlines the most severe threats to financial institutions and the information assets that can be affected by a cyber attack and will recommend what processes and controls need to be implemented to defend against these attacks. 3 credits.
