PHAS 6078 - Elective Practicum

Prerequisite: successful completion of 56 credit hours within the Physician Associate program. This course is a 5-week supervised clinical practice experience in the student's interest. Students may choose to spend another 5 weeks on an additional core rotation or choose a specialty/subspecialty of their interest. To maximize the elective experience, most core rotations should be completed before the elective. Students will be placed with clinical practitioners who specialize in the care of patients in the students' elective choice. Students are expected to assess, manage, and care for patients in their electives setting. Students are expected to refine and build on the techniques and clinical skills acquired during their didactic phase. Students will develop a more in-depth, specialty-focused, understanding of the best practices of care, care delivery, common presentations, diagnostic studies utilized, and recommended therapies specific to the conditions commonly encountered in the electives' clinical setting. 4 credits.
