CJST 7742 - Advanced Qualitative Methods The course offers a survey of major qualitative methodological approaches used in criminal justice research (i.e. ethnography, participant observation, interviewing, focus groups, visual analysis, and textual analysis) and provides examples of studies that exemplify these methods. It also provides best practices and tools to develop qualitative studies and covers issues such as how to approach hard to reach populations, select a site/develop a sample, gain entre, establish rapport, develop interview questions, conduct focus groups, organize visual and textual information, and anticipate and handle ethical issues while conducting research. 3 credits.
