PHAS 6072 - Pediatric Medicine Prerequisite: successful completion of 56 credit hours within the Physician Associate program. Pediatrics is a 5-week supervised clinical practice experience specializing in the care of infant, child, and adolescent patients. Students will be placed in a healthcare setting with clinical practitioners who specialize in pediatric medicine. Under their clinical preceptor's supervision, students will provide acute, chronic, and preventative care to the pediatric medicine patient population. Students are expected to evaluate, assess, and manage common pediatric complaints, perform procedures, formulate patient-centered treatment plans, provide patient education and developmental guidance. Students are expected to refine and build on the techniques and clinical skills acquired during their didactic phase. Students will develop a more in-depth, specialty focused, understanding of the best practices in utilizing diagnostic workups, interpreting diagnostic studies, criteria for referral to specialists, development of treatment plans and implementation of care specific to the needs of the pediatric population. 4 credits.
