PHAS 6074 - Internal Medicine Prerequisite: successful completion of 56 credit hours within the Physician Associate program. Internal medicine supervised clinical practice experience is a 5-week clinical practice course focused on the care of adult and geriatric patients. Students will be placed in an inpatient or outpatient healthcare setting with clinical practitioners who specialize in internal medicine. Under their clinical preceptor's supervision, students will provide acute, chronic, and preventative care to the internal medicine patient population. Students are expected to evaluate, assess, and manage complaints, perform common procedures, formulate patient-centered treatment plans, and provide patient education. Students are expected to refine and build on the techniques and clinical skills acquired during their didactic phase. Students will develop a more in-depth, specialty focused, understanding of the best practices of utilizing diagnostic workups, interpreting diagnostic studies, criteria for referral to specialists, indications for admission to hospital, and development and implementation of patient care plans specific to internal medicine. 4 credits.
