PHAS 6077 - Emergency Medicine Prerequisite: successful completion of 56 credit hours within the Physician Associate program. Emergency medicine supervised clinical practice experience is a 5-week clinical practice course focused on the care emergent care needs of patients. Students will be placed with clinical practitioners who specialize in the delivery of emergency care in the hospital setting. Students are expected to assess and manage complaints, provide emergency care, perform typical emergency room procedures, and provide patient education. Students will develop a more in-depth, specialty focused, understanding of the best practices of utilizing diagnostic workups, interpreting diagnostic studies, criteria for referral to specialists, indications for admission to hospital, and development and implementation of discharge plans specific to emergency medicine. 4 credits.
