MLSC 6613 - Clinical Bacteriology for Medical Laboratory Science Co-requisite: MLSC 6623 . Prerequisite or co-requisite: MLSC 6601 . This course will include the study of clinically important bacterial pathogens encountered in the diagnosis of infectious human disease, and will emphasize the correlation of clinical laboratory data with the patient's diagnosis and treatment. Emphasis will be placed on use of organism characteristics to identify common bacteria (morphologic, cultural, and biochemical traits; pathogenesis; pathology; epidemiology; risk factors), the analytical procedures for bacteriology, susceptibility of microorganisms to various antimicrobial agents, and reporting results to healthcare providers, infection control/prevention and public health authorities. Laboratory fee; 4 credits.
