MECH 3330 - Fundamentals of Mechanical Design (D) Prerequisite: EASC 2222 or consent of instructor. Review of methods of mechanical design. Development of fundamental engineering analysis involving static and fatigue failure. Topics include the maximum shear and Von Mises theories of static design, safety factor, Soderberg and Goodman diagrams for fatigue design, modified endurance limit, reliability analysis, statistical considerations, and stress concentration. Introduction to codes and standards. Practical applications. 3 credits
