ARTS 1100 - Visual Thinking: Arts and Design Foundation This course is an intensive introduction to visual thinking designed for first-year students in the art, graphic design, and interior design majors. The course covers fundamental principles and elements of design in relation to line, color, composition, space, value, and visual observation, and how these relate to the fields of art and design in general. An emphasis will be placed on interdisciplinary learning, collaborative projects, and incorporate historical, cultural, and global points of view. Department-wide lectures, readings, guest presentations, and field trips will supplement studio practice to engage students in exploring content while introducing them to the department faculty and their professions.
The course requires 6 hours of weekly studio time as well as a 1.5 hour lecture period. Laboratory fee.
