Sport management is an established field providing numerous career options from professional and collegiate sports to sport broadcasting or selling sporting goods.  Our students have obtained jobs managing sport facilities, marketing products through sports organizations, running sport leagues, owning/managing fitness centers, and serving as high school athletic directors.  The options are almost limitless.  The University of New Haven focuses on the business side of these industries. Our graduates work in numerous business environments leveraging their strong legal, financial, managerial, marketing, and event management skills embodied in our classes.

Students begin taking sport management classes their first semester and culminate their eight dedicated sport management courses with a mandatory internship and Sport Management capstone.  Our courses are supplemented with numerous experiential education opportunities from industry internships and over 50 industry speakers a year to professional enrichment opportunities where students can network with industry leaders.

With several unique degree options at both the undergraduate and graduate level, the University of New Haven's Sport Management Department can provide the education students need to become leaders in this exciting industry.

  • At the undergraduate level, the Sport Management Department offers both a B.S. in Sport Management and a B.S. in International Business & Sport Management.  The department also offers a minor in Sport Management (for non-majors) and works with the Management Department to offer a concentration in Sport Management with the B.S. in Business Management degree program (see below).
  • At the graduate level, the department offers an M.S. in Sport Management with concentrations available in both Collegiate Athletic Administration and in Business Analytics.  The Business Analytics concentration is STEM designated (itself a measure of quality and analytic rigor).

In addition to the traditional sport management degree, students can pursue a B.S. in Business Management with a concentration in Sport Management.  This option allows students to take more management courses in combination with their sport management coursework.

Students pursuing their Sport Management degree have the option to pursue minors that can enhance their overall education and easily fit within the free electives allowed in the degree plan.  Some minors students have pursued include a variety of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Sport Communications, and Sport Economics.

The department requires internships, which enable students to combine their education with practical work experience in their career field. Students are allowed to take multiple internships.  For additional details, students should consult their academic advisor and the College of Business Internship and Co-Op Coordinator, Charles "Pete" Peterson, at 203-479-4551.
