Coordinator: Jan Jones, Ph.D., University of Connecticut

Senior Lecturer: Jan Jones, Ph.D., University of Connecticut

The Hospitality and Tourism Management Degree is designed for those who want to enter the management ranks of these vibrant and growing industries. Students will gain management, marketing, and operations skills tailored to these fields, translating into a depth of knowledge in the subject areas of hotel and tourism management.  The program features both lectures and hands-on campus learning labs offering experiential learning opportunities that build practical competencies in hospitality, event management, food service, and tourism planning. The program provides a set of skills and breadth of experiences that are in demand among top employers in the industry.

The Hospitality and Tourism Management program offers an undergraduate B.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management degree with concentrations in either Event and Tourism Management or Hotel and Resort Management. Alternatively, a student can complete the Hospitality and Tourism Management Degree without a concentration.

Students earning a B.S. degree in hospitality and tourism management at the University of New Haven are required to complete 121 credits, including the University core curriculum (41 credits), hospitality and tourism management major requirements (36 credits), fieldwork (2 credits), service requirement (1 credit), internship (3 credits) and the remaining requirements (38 credits) as outlined by concentration and/or free electives.  The Hospitality and Tourism Management program does not use the College of Business Core (though it does have several of the Core's classes already integrated into the major).

The department encourages internships, which enable students to combine their education with practical, paid work experience in their career field. For additional details, consult your academic advisor and the College of Business Internship and Co-Op Coordinator, Charles "Pete" Peterson, at 203-479-4551.
