Italian Studies Minor

This minor combines courses in basic, intermediate, advanced language, as well as literature, history, and Italian culture. If students begin at a level beyond ITAL 1102 , they can take additional courses from the area studies category to meet the 18-credit hour requirement. At least one of the area study courses must be a 4000-level Italian (ITAL) course where students will perform selected written and oral activities in Italian.

Required Courses
Note: Listed below is the sequence of courses for students with no previous knowledge of Italian. Students who studied more than one year of Italian prior to matriculation at the University of New Haven will need to take the placement test in order to determine their level of proficiency. If students place higher than ITAL 1102 , they will substitute the classes they outplaced with additional area study courses in order to meet the 18-hour requirement.

Note: Special Topics in Italian or about Italian culture may satisfy the elective requirements upon approval of the Modern Language Coordinator. ITAL content courses are only for Italian minors and they will carry one extra credit and a language laboratory. Non-minors must register under GLBS and will not have to fulfill the laboratory requirement.
