Arabic Language and Culture-Area Studies Minor

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: College of Arts and Sciences

This minor combines courses in basic, intermediate, advanced, and intensive language, as well as translation, literature and the media, and area studies. If students begin at a level beyond ARBC 1102 , they can take additional courses from the area studies category to meet the 18-credit hour requirement.  At least one of the area study courses must be a 4000-level Arabic (ARBC) course where students will perform selected written and oral activities in Arabic.

Required Courses

Note:  Listed below is the sequence of courses for students with no previous knowledge of Arabic.  Students who studied more than one year of Arabic prior to matriculation at the University of New Haven will need to take the placement test in order to determine their level of proficiency.  If students place higher than ARBC 1102 , they will substitute the classes they outplaced with additional area study courses in order to meet the 18-hour requirement.

Note:

Note: Special Topics in Arabic or about Arabic culture may satisfy the elective requirements upon approval of the Modern Language Coordinator.
