Russian Language and Culture-Area Studies Minor

Please refer to important information on minor requirements on this page. This minor combines courses in basic, intermediate, advanced, and intensive language, as well as translation, literature and the media, and area studies. If students begin at a level beyond RUSS 1102 , they can take additional courses from the area studies category to meet the 18-credit hour requirement.  At least one of the area study courses must be a 4000-level Russian (RUSS) course where students will perform selected written and oral activities in Russian.

Required Courses

Note:  Listed below is the sequence of courses for students with no previous knowledge of Russian.  Students who studied more than one year of Russian prior to matriculation at the University of New Haven or speak it at home will need to take the placement test in order to determine their level of proficiency.  If students place higher than RUSS 1102 , they will substitute the classes they outplaced with additional area study courses in order to meet the 18-hour requirement.

Note

Note: Special Topics in Russian or about Russian culture may satisfy the elective requirements upon approval of the Modern Language Coordinator.
