Spanish Language and Culture-Latin American Studies Minor

Please refer to important information on minor requirements on this page. This minor combines courses in basic, intermediate, advanced, and intensive language, as well as conversation, literature and the media, and area studies. If students begin at a level beyond SPAN 1102 , they can take additional courses from the area studies category to meet the 18-credit hour requirement.  At least one of the area study courses must be a 4000-level Spanish (SPAN) course where students will perform selected written and oral activities in Spanish.

Required Courses

Note:  Listed below is the sequence of courses for students with no previous knowledge of Spanish.  Students who studied more than one year of Spanish prior to matriculation at the University of New Haven will need to take the placement test in order to determine their level of proficiency.  If students place higher than SPAN 1102 , they will substitute the classes they outplaced with additional area study courses in order to meet the 18-hour requirement.

Note

Note: Special Topics in Spanish or about Spanish culture may satisfy the elective requirements upon approval of the Modern Language Coordinator.
