Theater Arts, B.A.


Program Outcomes

1. Analyze a production in terms of the process involving creative/production team contributions and how they intersect and diverge. 

2. Analyze a text (written, visual and performance) advancing interpretations by incorporating concrete details about content, style and form from primary sources for support.

3. Synthesize the connections between social and political context and historical theatrical movements.

4. Perform multiple roles within the field of theater and performance (e.g. actor, designer, playwright, critic) as evidenced by participation in departmental productions.

Students earning a B.A. degree with a major in theater arts must complete 121 credits. Courses include the University Core Curriculum and the course requirements indicated below.

University Core Curriculum (40 credits)


Students must complete the University Core Curriculum with the following restrictions:

  • CC 9.1 - Any course in this category except those with a THEA prefix will fulfill Core requirements.
  • Students may take any combination of Tier 2 Core Courses, but courses with a THEA prefix will not fulfill Core requirements.

Theatrical Discipline Electives (12 credits):


Majors must take 4 of the following THEA courses drawn from distinct theatrical disciplines (acting, design, dramaturgy and criticism, directing, and playwriting):
