Esports and Gaming, General Concentration, B.S.

The B.S. degree in esports and gaming provides students with a well-rounded, holistic, and scientific understanding of the esports and gaming industry and its various components.  Through concentrations in corruption and gambling, game studies, and esports performance and health - or a general concentration - students will obtain a liberal studies-backed degree which leverages passion and interest in esports and gaming.  Students will be prepared to work in various industries that abut the esports space such as criminal justice, psychology, sociology, art, the sciences, technology, health, and related topics.

Program Objectives:

Our graduates will be:

a. Employed in firms / fields that contribute to the esport and gaming industries;

b. Contributing to the public dialogue regarding the esport and gaming industries;

c. Advancing their careers in the fields they choose.

Program Outcomes:

1. Critically evaluate the social and cultural responsibilities of gaming

        1.1 Critically analyze gaming culture.

2. Engage in effective decision making and communication as part of a team.

    2.1 Apply basic business principles to esports and gaming.

    2.2 Produce an Esports event as part of a team.

3. Describe the technical requirements involved in developing and delivering the gaming experience.

   3.1 Describe how technology is used to deliver the gaming experience.

4. Evaluate the ethical, legal, and governance aspects of gaming.

   4.1 Explain the ethical aspects of gaming.

   4.2 Describe the governance and regulatory environment of gaming.

5. Identify the effects of gaming on the participant's health.

  5.1 Identify effects of gaming on the participant's overall health.

6. Evaluate both the art and narrative of gaming.

  6.1 Evaluate the aesthetic choices of game design.

  6.2 Identify narrative structures used in games.

Corruption and Gambling Concentration

   7.1 Evaluate how competitors are coerced to behave corruptly.

   7.2 Explain the effects of organized crime on the gambling in esports.

Game Studies Concentration

   7.1 Develop a game narrative using contemporary gaming techniques.

   7.2 Analyze games for dimensions of social responsibility.

E-sport Performance and Health Concentration

  7.1 Assess health factors that impact esports participants' overall potential performance.

  7.2 Implement behavioral strategies to promote health among esports competitors.

 

Students earning a B.S. degree in esports and gaming are required to complete 122 credits, including the university core curriculum (41 credits).  Further clarification and additional requirements are outlined below:
