Russian Language and Culture-Area Studies Minor

Required Courses

Note:  Listed below is the sequence of courses for students with no previous knowledge of Russian.  Students who studied more than one year of Russian prior to matriculation at the University of New Haven or speak it at home will need to take the placement test in order to determine their level of proficiency.  If students place higher than RUSS 1102 , they will substitute the classes they outplaced with additional area study courses in order to meet the 15-hour requirement.

• RUSS 1102 - Elementary Russian II
• RUSS 2201 - Intermediate Russian I
• RUSS 2202 - Intermediate Russian II
• RUSS 3301 - Advanced Russian

• HIST 3352 - Empires in the Modern Age: Conquest, Trade, Borderlands, and Identities in an Era of Global Change
• HIST 3362 - Princes, Tsars and Serfs: Russia's Rise to Empire
• HIST 3363 - Russia and the USSR: Multiethnic Empire, Revolution, and Communism

Note: Special Topics in Russian or about Russian culture may satisfy the elective requirements upon approval of the Modern Language Coordinator.
