Executive M.B.A.

Founded in 1976, the Executive MBA program at the University of New Haven is the second-oldest in New England, with over 1500 graduates to date.  It is designed for experienced, full-time managers who want to prepare themselves for general management.  Emphasis is placed on instilling the concepts and tools of management rather than developing deep proficiency in a specific area of business.  The program emphasizes the integrated nature of the business enterprise, interaction with its environment, and the demands on its leaders by providing an integrated learning environment for both the business disciplines and their integrated application in general management.

The Executive MBA program at the University of New Haven...

  • is transformational not transactional - students enter as subject experts in their respective disciplines - healthcare or engineering, for example, and graduate with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to make the leap to leadership roles. 
     
  • is designed around relationship learning - students are integrated into a close-knit, energizing, and supportive family.  Cohorts are assembled to include a strong blend of student perspectives, backgrounds, and expertise.  Small class sizes enable students to develop lifelong professional relationships as they learn from professors, alumni, and classmates.
     
  • is focused on skill-building not task-doing - the program enables students to develop and manage their skills and expertise portfolio in order to stay relevant and valuable at all times.
     
  • develops decision making tools that are integrated across disciplines, not isolated in topical silos.  Our program is organized around an approach to decision making that relies on teamwork and collaboration that equips the student as a leader to integrate their work, goals, and communication strategies across different disciplines and groups.
     
  • delivers both theory and practice -professors bring years of real-world experience and leadership into the classroom; students learn to be a leader ... from leaders.  Students put what they learn to work every week - applying concepts, not learning theory for theory's sake.
     
  • provides access to an extensive network and professional coaching.  Our program grants the student membership into the largest Executive MBA alumni network in the state (and the 2nd oldest in New England).  Further, the program provides its students with a personal executive coach to bounce off ideas, consider new opportunities, and determine how to best navigate whatever challenges exist to career achievement.

The Executive MBA curriculum contains six large, integrative modules that together reflect a representative and comprehensive spectrum of key elements of a business enterprise:
 

Module 1EMBA 9970 : Viability - Building the Foundation

  • Lays the foundation for the core fundamental concepts that drive a successful organization: from economics and marketing, through organizational behavior & development, each to leadership and strategy.
  • Introduces the importance of leadership and service.
  • Links functional areas such as finance, accounting, and business analytics with overall performance.

 

Module 2EMBA 9971 : Cultural Transformation - Building the Team

  • Builds strategies for maintaining talent, managing conflict, fostering leadership & teamwork, and increasing productivity.
  • Establishes concepts related to ambiguity, multiple perspectives, and their impact on the organization's culture.
  • Develops and integrates reflective skills into management decision-making.

 

Module 3EMBA 9972 : Marketing Management - Connecting to the Customer

  • Explores key marketing tactics and strategies used to more effectively connect with the customer and grow market share.
  • Explores operational management - including supply chain management & product development.
  • Partners with the Washington Campus for a 3-day trip to D.C. to build an understanding of how Washington operates and its impact on markets and decision-making for the organization.

 

Module 4EMBA 9973 : Sustainability and Global Economies

  • Examines the interrelationships of the domestic and international economic environments the organization faces from both a macro and micro perspective.
  • Builds a foundation of behavioral models for evaluating decision making both within the organization and in its immediate competitive environment.

 

Module 5EMBA 9974 : Measurement - Advancing Shareholder Value

  • Explores accounting tools and techniques used to generate information for management decision-making and control.
  • Analyzes company financial statements and explores a range of financial topics that include flow, forecasting, capital budgeting, enterprise valuation, financial ethics, and compliance.

 

Module 6: EMBA 9975 : Leadership - Advancing Company Value

  • Builds a foundation for strategic management as a decision-making tool.
  • Examines the role of corporate social responsibility on an organization's long-term success.
