This program prepares students to work in marine science-related fields including aquaculture, marine biology, marine resource management, marine and coastal assessment, marine ecology, marine fisheries, marine sciences, protection and conservation, and marine veterinary sciences. Students who graduate from this program are fully prepared to attend graduate and professional schools in marine sciences and other related fields. All students in the marine biology major are required to complete a year-long research-based Senior Thesis as part of their program.
Program Outcomes
1. Communicate clearly in writing and orally within the discipline.
2. Use both field and lab methods to collect data related to marine biology.
3. Analyze scientific data.
4. Critically evaluate journal articles from the discipline literature.
All students majoring in marine biology must complete the 40 credits of University Core Curriculum with the following restrictions:
Tier I:
C3T1 Mathematical and Quantitative Literacy satisfied by MATH 2228 Elementary Statistics
C4T1 Scientific Explorations satisfied by BIOL 2253/2255 Biology for Majors/Biology Lab for Majors.
Tier II:
C3T2 Mathematical and Quantitative Literacy satisfied by MATH 1117 Calculus
C4T2 Scientific Explorations satisfied by MARN 2200 Oceanography with Lab
C4T2 Scientific Explorations satisfied by BIOL 2250 Invertebrate Zoology with Lab
