In addition to general admission requirements for all prospective students, it is recommended that applicants to the paramedicine program demonstrate satisfactory performance in sciences and mathematics. It is strongly recommended that applicants have completed both high school biology and chemistry with laboratory and two years of high school algebra. An in-person or telephone interview with the program director may be required. Letters of recommendation supporting the student's ability to pursue a rigorous science-based curriculum and desire to contribute in the health-care delivery system are strongly encouraged. Students should be aware that the NREMT and many states may not allow students to become registered or licensed if they have certain criminal convictions. Students are required to comply with university and clinical site partner vaccination and immunization policies.
Upon completion, the student will demonstrate the ability to comprehend, apply, and evaluate theoretical information relevant to their role of a patient-care provider in the field of pre-hospital emergency care as an EMT-Paramedic. The paramedic program will prepare the student to sit for the National Registry Certification Exam. Students graduate with certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC), Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS), and Geriatric Emergency Medical Services (GEMS). This program is designed to allow the student to pursue a concurrent area of study to prepare for future employment opportunities. Concurrent course options available include fire administration, emergency medical service administration, prerequisite courses for nursing or physician assistant, and a wide area of other disciplines that can be customized with paramedicine students.
Career opportunities available for graduates of this program include employment as firefighter/paramedics, hospital paramedics, EMS supervisors and/or managers, and educators of emergency medical services.
Program Objectives:
- Gainful employment as a Certified National Registry of EMTs Paramedic within one year after graduation.
- Admission to an advanced provider educational program either at the graduate level (Physician Assistant, Nurse, or Physician) or advanced certification as Critical Care Paramedic within 3 years.
- Assume broader positions of responsibility in a variety of health care, research, business, public safety, and educational settings.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES:
- Function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, community, health, or public safety system with advanced clinical protocols and medical oversight
- Perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance, including diagnostic equipment approved by an agency medical director.
- Evaluate current evidence-based medicine to guide industry best practices for patient care.

Online Paramedicine B.S. Degree Completion for Nationally Registered Paramedics

Our degree completion program allows certified paramedics an opportunity to advance their education and earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Paramedicine. Students entering the program must already be certified as paramedics through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
Based on the NREMT requirements for certfication, credit is granted for a majority of the Paramedicine program's major requirements. The student must complete the remaining coursework required for the bachelor's degree at the University as well as additional credits in Paramedicine to satisfy residency requirements. The B.S. program normally can be completed in two years with full-time study or approximately four years part time.

BS in Paramedicine and Master of Healthcare Administration
The B.S. in Paramedicine and Master of Healthcare Administration accelerated program is a five-year, 150-credit degree program designed to pair your abilities as a first responder with the leadership skills you need to advance in the emergency services field as a leader. This degree combination includes graduate coursework in the senior year as well as coursework during the summer after the senior year in order to complete the program in five years.
Students applying for fall 2023 may apply directly to this dual degree program. Students who meet the admission criteria for this program will also be conditionally accepted into the M.H.A. program. This conditional acceptance remains effective for students who maintain a cumulative 3.2 undergraduate GPA.
