Requirements for Minors
- At least 50% of the minor courses must be unduplicated, i.e., not used to simultaneously satisfy credit requirements of the major, core curriculum, or additional minors.
- At least 50% of the minor courses must be completed in residence at UNH.
- A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required in the minor (programs may set higher requirements).
- A student may not declare a major and minor in the same program.
The minor in marine biology offers students across the university the opportunity to enhance their degree program while gaining a deeper understanding of the ocean and the organisms that live there. The minor consists of a minimum of 19 credits. All students must complete MARN 2200 Oceanography and MARA 2223 /MARA 2225 Marine Biology with Laboratory and will select one organismal course and one marine biology restricted elective in consultation with an advisor from the program. This minor is open to students in the BA Marine Affairs program with the following restriction: students who minor in Marine Biology may not use MARN 3331 , MARN 4440 , or MARN 4444 as restricted electives in the Marine Affairs program.
Upon completion of the minor in marine biology, students will be able to:
- explain the biological, chemical, and physical components of marine systems.
- implement appropriate methodologies & techniques to address issues in marine, estuarine, and coastal systems and the organisms present.
- demonstrate critical thinking by identifying, analyzing, and evaluating current issues in marine biology.

Required Courses (12 credits)
Plus one of the following organismal courses (4 credits)
Plus one Marine Biology restricted elective (min 3 credits)
