Requirements for Minors

  • At least 50% of the minor courses must be unduplicated, i.e., not used to simultaneously satisfy credit requirements of the major, core curriculum, or additional minors.
  • At least 50% of the minor courses must be completed in residence at UNH.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required in the minor (programs may set higher requirements).
  • A student may not declare a major and minor in the same program.

The transferability of mechanical engineering skills makes them useful across a variety of industries and can help one become more employable. As many engineering projects require collaboration across disciplines, minoring in mechanical engineering provides one with solid understanding of core engineering and related areas which can be beneficial if you plan to work on interdisciplinary projects in the future. The program will benefit students in general engineering, civil engineering and others.

In completing the minor, students shall have an ability to:

  1. Identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  2. Apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
  3. Recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
