Financial crimes have been growing significantly year to year in both the national and international arenas (the international estimate is 5 trillion dollars annually, and increases every year, ACFE Report to the Nations).  This amount does not include the federal, state and local spending on the pandemic, which is estimated to have incurred over 2 trillion dollars' worth of fraudulent activity.  Just unraveling that will take a decade to resolve, if not longer on the civil side. Every agency and private sector group is looking for employees with knowledge in accounting/finance as well as investigations to conduct thorough financial investigation.  This minor requires the completion of 18 credits.

Students completing this minor will be able to:

  • Analyze financial information.
  • Analyze cybersecurity intelligence.
  • Integrate findings of financial and cybersecurity intelligence into written reports.
  • Develop appropriate information sharing strategies for a threat to a community or organization.
  • Explain legal principles that affect the investigative strategies.
