Geographical Information Systems Certificate

The certificate in geographical information systems (GIS) provides professional training in the technology and application of computerized cartography and spatially referenced databases. GIS is an increasingly important technology in environmental sciences, urban and regional planning and management, marketing, criminal justice, communications, and energy and natural resource protection. Students entering this program are required to have a working knowledge of personal computers.  This certificate requires the completion of 12 credits.

Program Outcomes:

After fulfilling the certificate requirements, the student will be able to:

- explain basic and advanced GIS techniques,

- develop procedures and databases for specific applications within GIS,

- apply advanced GIS techniques to address questions in their field of study, such as environmental assessment and management issues,

- design the complete GIS application around a real-world project.
